Extract, combine, split and create PDF files with a specialist document workflow.
Short answer
Choose PDF for reading and assembling fixed-layout files, Word for editable narrative documents, and PowerPoint for presentations. These Anthropic repository skills are useful Claude ecosystem starting points; this guide has not verified their exact packages inside Duet.
Start with the handoff, not the file you received
A PDF may be your source without being your ideal output. If a colleague needs to revise the text, choose a Word document. If the job is a meeting briefing, choose a presentation. If the recipient only needs a stable, printable packet, a PDF may be the better fit. Decide this before asking Claude to transform the material: conversion alone does not create a useful deliverable.
Choose the smallest workflow that solves the job
For PDF work, begin with extraction or a single merge rather than a large batch. For Word, provide a real outline and indicate which sections are approved text versus new drafting. For PowerPoint, specify the audience, decision and slide limit. The catalog pages link to Anthropic’s own skill files so you can inspect the tools and dependencies before adopting the workflow.
Give the reviewer a concrete acceptance checklist
Check extracted PDF tables against the page image, especially scanned documents. Open Word output in the editor the recipient actually uses and verify headings, tables and tracked changes. Render every presentation slide and check for clipped text, unsupported claims and unreadable charts. Keep the original inputs and ask for a separate output file rather than overwriting your only copy.
Read each skill’s own boundaries before you choose
Each skill file states what it is for. The Word skill’s description tells you not to use it for PDFs, spreadsheets, Google Docs or general coding tasks, so it will not stand in for a Google Docs connector. The PowerPoint skill is described around .pptx and .potx files, including templates, layouts and speaker notes. The PDF skill lists reading, merging, splitting, forms and OCR. Matching your request to those stated boundaries is faster than discovering a mismatch halfway through a document.
What the source establishes—and what it does not
Anthropic’s repository describes these document skills as source-available, not open source. Inspect their license before redistribution. The Duet announcement says skills carry over from your account, but it does not validate a particular repository version or every dependency. Check availability in your account and run a small sample before committing a sensitive document workflow.
